Fraser Coast July 2025 Economic Update

This suite of snapshots provides a high-level summary of current indicators across the Fraser Coast region’s economic, socio-economic and aviation sectors.

Historically, Economic and Socio-Economic Snapshots have been delivered on a quarterly basis. A dedicated snapshot has been prepared for the Hervey Bay Airport outlining the statistics for 2024-2025. This data will continue to be provided on a six-monthly basis. The data presented represents the most current available as at the March 2025 quarter; however, it should be noted that there is some lag in the data available and some figures are drawn from the ABS 2021 Census and have not yet been updated.

đź’˛ Gross Regional Product figures have continued to rise, with an increase of 3.17% on last year’s results.

🏡 Median house and unit sales across the Fraser Coast continue to increase.

đź’Ľ Jobs have increased by 5.53%, however, the Fraser Coast region has experienced a rise in Unemployment to 7% as at the March 2025 quarter. While this Unemployment figure is concerning in isolation, it’s important to view it within a broader context. This increase appears to be part of a wider regional and national trend. Australia’s national unemployment rate has also risen, now sitting at 4.3%, and all Local Government Areas (LGAs) across the Wide Bay region have recorded similar spikes in unemployment

These increases correlate with notable growth in labour force participation across the region. For Fraser Coast region, an additional 1,266 people entered the labour force during the March quarter. While a growing labour force can be a sign of economic confidence or population growth, it also increases the unemployment rate if job creation doesn’t keep pace.
